Hello,

I'm trying to get Agent 8 to connect to Yahoo.com e-mail servers without
success.

The Yahoo settings are:
https://help.yahoo.com/kb/new-mail-for-desktop/pop-settings-sln4724.html

POP settings for Yahoo Mail
Incoming Mail (POP) Server

Server - pop.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 995
Requires SSL - Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 465 or 587
Requires SSL - Yes
Requires TLS - Yes (if available)
Requires authentication - Yes

Both POP and SMTP settings fail.

POP: Rejected username and password [SYS/TEMP] Server error. Please try
again later.

SMTP: smtp.mail.yahoo.com does not support Secure Password
Authentication

Is anyone able to provide insight into coaxing Yahoo into functionality?

Duzn't Yahoo! now require *OAuth2* authorisation, in which its own
*token* is inserted as password for third-party apps such as Forte
Agent and Thunderbird?

Also on that Yahoo settings page, and important:

Your login info

Email address - Your full email address (***@domain.com)
Password - Generate App Password
Requires authentication - Yes

Two things me to mind...

As I understand it, you should be using an "app password" in Agent in
place of your Yahoo account password.
See <https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN15241.html>
AIUI Yahoo does not accept your Yahoo account password from third-party
email applications like Agent. You must use an "app password" instead.

In Agent's server settings for Yahoo, 'Login method' should _not_ be
set to "Secure Password Authentication". 'Login method' should be set
to "Username and password". Security is provided by SSL.
The error says Yahoo does not support "Secure Password Authentication".

Ralph,

As always, I am indebted to your kind assistance.

I logged into My Yahoo web-mail account, and went to this page:
https://login.yahoo.com/myaccount/security/app-password , Clicked the
"Generate and manage app passwords" link, pasted the new password into
Agent, and: "Everything looks good."

Why doesn't Yahoo provide that link on their settings page? I sent them
feedback requesting they do that.

Many thanks.

Best regards,
Larry

PS: It's interesting that the "app password" requirement in unnecessary for
accessing my att.net mail on Yahoo's site.

I believe Yahoo Mail is hosted by a (less than thoughtful and inconsistent)
Korean entity.
